With our Ballroom and Latin American dance classes, we cater for both social and competitive dancers. Social dancers are those that want to dance to have fun, to meet new people, to exercise and to learn a skill that empowers them personally and socially. That's not to say that social dancers do not have opportunities to compete, we attend and host many social dance competitions, catering for a more relaxed and fun competitive environment.
For social dancers we emphasise balance, control, and the understanding of the principles of leading and following, with the result being that students learn to move coherently with a partner while looking composed and smooth.
We have a custom social dance syllabus, which is both very stylish and practical for beginners yet impressive and challenging on higher levels. Our syllabus is designed to systematically build a dancers skills and understandings of the principles of dance, while enabling them to take on ever more dynamic and attractive moves.
Competitive dancers are those that dance to test their skills against others; a competitive dancers training is focused more on the athletic and stylistic aspects of dancing, with the intention of attaining the high standards of competitive dance. Our competitive syllabus is the ISTD Standard and Latin syllabus which is compatible with all major dance organizations in South Africa.
We also nurture the performance art aspect of Ballroom and Latin American dancing, we choreograph and compose shows and individual pieces; so there are numerous opportunities for students of all skill levels to perform. We host two shows each year, with choreographies and performances from all styles, and we attend and perform at numerous competitions and events.
A very rewarding aspect of our work is seeing the personal growth that students achieve through studying dance. By mastering the way we move through space on the dance floor we sometimes get a better handle on the way we move through life. Many qualities of dancing, such as poise, confidence, smoothness and control translate extremely well from a dance floor to an office, home or social setting.
